For procurement and quality teams, a well-defined testing scope is essential to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure accurate results. At our CNAS/CMA-accredited laboratory, we specialize in preservation testing for fruits and vegetables, providing objective data to support your quality assurance and compliance requirements. Our capabilities are designed to meet the diverse needs of international markets, from raw material evaluation to finished product quality control.

Testing Scope

Our preservation testing services cover a wide range of fruits and vegetables, including but not limited to apples, bananas, tomatoes, lettuce, and strawberries. The testing is applicable to various materials, such as fresh produce, chilled, frozen, and processed fruits and vegetables. We evaluate different grades based on their intended application scenarios, such as retail display, export, or industrial processing. The commonly referenced standards include ASTM, ISO, EN, and GB, ensuring alignment with global industry requirements.

Testing Items and Parameters

Our testing methodology includes multiple parameters to assess the preservation quality of fruits and vegetables. Typical test items include: physiological indicators (respiration rate, firmness), microorganism counts (total aerobic plate count, yeast and mold), chemical composition (sugar content, acidity), and visual evaluation (color retention, bruising). Below is a table outlining typical parameters and graded limit requirements for fresh apples:

Parameter Typical Range Graded Limit
Firmness (kg/cm²) 6.0 - 8.0 ≥ 6.0 for premium grade
Respiration Rate (µmol CO₂ kg⁻¹ h⁻¹) 2.0 - 5.0 ≤ 5.0 for cold storage
Total aerobic plate count (CFU/g) 1.0 x 10² - 1.0 x 10³ ≤ 1.0 x 10³ for export
Sugar content (%) 10.0 - 15.0 ≥ 12.0 for high-sugar grade

Additional parameters may be included based on client requirements, such as ethylene production rates, water activity, or susceptibility to specific pathogens. Each test is conducted under controlled conditions to ensure reproducibility and accuracy.

Data and Variation Analysis

Parallel-sample and batch-to-batch variation is rigorously assessed to ensure consistency in testing results. For parallel samples, relative deviation is calculated using the formula (|Sample Value - Average Value| / Average Value) x 100%. Typically, acceptable relative deviation for key parameters such as firmness and microbial counts is within ±5%. Batch-to-batch variation is analyzed by comparing mean values and standard deviations across multiple production batches. Our acceptance window for batch-to-batch variation is set at a standard deviation of ≤15% for physiological indicators and ≤20% for microbial counts. All variation data is reported alongside test results, providing clients with a clear understanding of product consistency and potential quality control challenges.

The data and variation analysis are presented in standardized reports, including statistical summaries and graphical representations where applicable. This approach enables clients to make informed decisions regarding quality acceptance, process adjustments, or regulatory compliance.
